Manasaa ce padu.t.thena bhaasati vaa karoti vaa

ENGLISH
Mind is the forerunner of (all evil) states.
Mind is chief; mind-made are they.
If one speaks or acts with wicked mind,
because of that, suffering follows one,
even as the wheel follows the hoof of the draught-ox. --

Le mental est l'avant coureur des conditions, le mental en est le chef, et les conditions sont façonnées par le mental; si avec un mental impur, quelqu'un parle ou agit, alors la douleur le suit comme la roue suit le sabot du bœuf.

19. Dù tụng nhiều kinh mà buông lung không thực hành thì chẳng huởng được phần ích lợi của Sa môn, khác nào kẻ chăn bò thuê, lo đếm bò cho người .
Y' Nghiã: Kẻ chăn bò thuê cứ sáng sớm dắt bò ra đồng, tối lại lùa bò về chuồng giao cho chủ, ngày ngày chỉ đếm bò mà đổi lấy ít tiền công, còn sữa, lạc, sanh tô, đề hồ của bò thì anh ta không hưởng được. Tụng kinh mà không tu hành theo kinh thì chẳng hưởng được lợi ích của kinh, của kẻ tu hành.

19. Wenn jemand viel heiliges Textbuch aufsagt, jedoch als unwachsamer Mensch nicht nach ihnen handelt; dann ist er wie ein Viehhirte, der das Vieh anderer zählt, und ernt nicht Frucht eines kontemplativen Lebens.
20. Tuy tụng ít kinh mà thường y giáo hành trì, hiểu biết chân chánh, từ bỏ tham sân, si, tâm hiền lành, thanh tịnh, giải thoát, xa bỏ thế dục, thì dù ở cõi này hay cõi khác, người kia vẫn hưởng phần ích lợi của Sa môn.

20 - Quoiqu'il récite peu les textes, il agit en accord avec le Dhamma , et se défaisant du plaisir sensuel, de la haine et de l ' ignorance, connaissant selon la vérité, avec un esprit totalement libre, Attachant à rien ci et après, il prend part aux béatitudes de l'ascète.
19. Wenn jemand viel heiliges Textbuch aufsagt, jedoch als unwachsamer Mensch nicht nach ihnen handelt; dann ist er wie ein Viehhirte, der das Vieh anderer zählt, und ernt nicht Frucht eines kontemplativen Lebens.
20. Wenn jemand selten Textbuch aufsagt, aber dem Dhamma folgt, in Übereinstimmung mit dem Dhamma handelt, Leidenschaft, Abneigung, Täuschung aufgibt, und wach ist, mit freiem Geist, nicht anhaftet weder hier noch danach, ernt er doch Frucht eines kontemplativen Lebens.
